Leonardo Spanu

Leonardo Spanu is a Principal Scientist in the Shell Project & Technology organization based in Houston. He is currently responsible for a research portfolio focused on decarbonization technologies, with an emphasis on natural gas pyrolysis, lower-carbon intensity materials, and heat generation. He is passionate about energy access and developing scalable energy solutions by collaborating with start-ups and academic institutes across the globe. He had assignments in India and the US and led projects in computational science and modeling, natural gas conversion, and life cycle analysis. Leonardo holds a Master's degree in physics (laurea) from the University of Pisa and a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Pavia, Italy. Before joining Shell in 2012, he worked at University of California Davis and SISSA Trieste.
